Common Facilities
Car Parking
Free parking spaces are available for Clayton Residential residents however, we cannot fully guarantee that every resident will get one and that they are 100% secured. Clayton Residential employs Service Personnel who monitor the car parks regularly during the hours of 9pm and 8.30am. High-powered lighting is installed in the car parks but in all other respects residents take the same risks parking at the Halls as they do in any street or public car park. The Halls car parks are gazetted and covered by the Road Traffic Act so the parking officers visit regularly. If anyone is parking outside the designated parking bays, they will receive a parking infringement notice. Residents are always encouraged to lock their car and not have any valuable items visible in the car. The Halls are not liable for any damage and/or theft to either the vehicle or property within the vehicle whilst the vehicle is parked in the Halls’ car park.
Sports Field
The multipurpose sports field at Clayton Residential is located between Deakin and Roberts Hall, south of Farrer Hall. It has a synthetic all weather surface, soccer goals and basketball rings. Mini soccer is a popular game played casually by the residents but it can be used for a number of other sporting events and competitions. The sports field has lighting and can be used at night. Residents can use it between the hours of 9am and 10pm. The sports field is a no smoking area. Sporting equipment can be borrowed from the Operations office.
Café and Dining Area
The Halls Café is situated between the Operations Office and Howitt Hall. It is open for lunch and dinner, seven days a week throughout the academic period, 11am to 2.30pm and 6pm to 7.30pm respectively. At the Halls of Residence, all residents only pay for what they eat. Dining room prices are kept as low as possible to try and fit into the average student’s budget. Owing to the fact that residents have not prepaid for their meals as part of their accommodation fee, this gives them the freedom to choose where and when they eat. Meal cards offer residents meals at a discounted rate and are available for purchase at the Operations Office.
Function Room
The Function Room is used for a variety of theme nights, Dine-ins, Gala dinners, sporting competitions, conferences and other such catered functions. It can seat up to 200 persons, has audio visual facilities and a curtained stage area for presentations and performances.
MRS Theatre
The Halls has its own auditorium seating approximately 200 persons. The theatre is equipped with surround sound, DVD, video, spotlights, etc. and can be used for video and TV nights, chorals, productions, ensembles, seminars, etc
Operations Office
The administration complex stands alongside the residential halls at the north east corner of the Clayton campus. Staff located at this complex assist with resident enquiries, resident arrival/departures, accommodation billing, maintenance requests and cleaning of rooms. Office hours are from 8.30am to 9pm on Monday to Friday and 9am to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday. The office is closed between 1pm and 1.30pm on Saturday and Sunday for lunch and some public holidays (Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Years Day).
