Deakin HallWhy choose to live in Deakin Hall? It has spacious student rooms, interesting residents from many different countries, a full program of social activities, and a reputation for being congenial. Residents enjoy its friendly, relaxed style. The oldest hall, Deakin has a very attractive common room with wireless internet and a picturesque courtyard. It has four kitchens, kitchenettes on most floors and a BBQ in the courtyard. Other facilities include a pool table, a table tennis table, a music room, two plasma television rooms, a large projector screen room with Foxtel/DVD equipped and a secure bicycle enclosure. Named after Alfred Deakin, Prime Minister from 1903-1910 and father of the Australian Constitution, Deakin is home to 159 students. Residents represent different faculties of the university and come from a diverse range of cultures. The Residential Support Team, the Deputy College Head and the College Head provide ongoing advice and guidance to all residents and are involved in assisting new students adjust to the demands of university life. As with the other Halls, the Deakin computer centre is networked to the Halls computer system and the university computer system. This allows residents to utilise the various programs and information available on site at any time of day or night. Computer network and telephone connections are also available in every student room.
