Cleaning Contract Specifications
For some years now, MRS has outsourced the cleaning of its residential buildings to external contractors. The decision to outsource cleaning was taken after an exhaustive cost benefit analysis which determined there were numerous benefits [financial and operational] achieved by outsourcing.
MRS is committed to improving both the transparency of decision making and to provide greater information in respect to operational matters. It is important that residents fully understand the level and frequency of cleaning that occurs at their respective residential site. The level and frequency for a particular site is for the most part determined by; cost, need, type of accommodation - dormitory style or self contained unit style, open access communal kitchens, bathrooms and toilets verses limited access facilities such as those contained in a unit/house.
The following cleaning responsibilities list has been developed to:
- give a broad overview of the level and frequency of cleaning that has been specified in the respective residential site cleaning contracts, and
- inform residents as to what cleaning has not been included in the respective residential site cleaning contracts, and
- inform residents what cleaning they are responsible for.
Each of the respective MRS residential sites has developed Key performance Indicators to ensure that externally sourced cleaning is maintained at a set standard. Residents should familiarise themselves with the cleaning specifications as outlined below. Weekly Tasks for West Units:
- Clean front porch and 3 Metres around the stairs area
- Vacuum all common areas and clean dining table and chairs. Also clean dust off heater and benches.
- Vacuum hallways and clean skirting boards
- Clean kitchen area which includes benches, sink, stove and oven, microwave, tiles and mop floor
- Clean laundry area which includes cleaning dryer filter, benches, sink, and washing machine and mop floor
- Clean both showers 1and 2 which includes wiping down shower recess, cleaning shower screens and mop floors
- Empty rubbish bin in toilet and kitchen
- Clean washroom area which includes cleaning bench, basin, and mirror and mop floor
- Clean toilet area which includes, cleaning bowl and seat, the pipe work behind toilet and mop floor. Always top up toilet paper to 8 rolls.
- Check fire extinguisher levels
Weekly Tasks for South Units:
- Clean front patio
- Vacuum all common areas and clean dining tables and chairs, also clean dust off heater and benches
- Vacuum hallway and clean skirting boards
- Clean kitchen area, which includes benches, sink, hot plates and oven, microwave, tiles and mop floor
- Clean laundry area which includes cleaning dryer filter, sink, and washing machine and mop floor
- Clean both showers 1and 2 which includes wiping down shower recess, cleaning shower screens, bench and mop floors
- Empty rubbish bin in toilet and kitchen
- Clean washroom area which includes cleaning bench, basin, and mirror and mop floor
- Clean male and female toilets which includes, cleaning bowls and seats, the pipe work behind toilets and mop floors. Always top up toilet paper to 12 rolls.
- Check fire extinguisher levels
Weekly Tasks for North Units:
- Clean front patio
- Vacuum all common areas and clean dining tables and chairs, also clean dust off heater and benches
- Clean kitchen area, which includes benches, sink, stove and oven, microwave, tiles and mop floor
- Vacuum Hallways on levels 1 and 2, stairwell, including handrails and clean skirting boards
- Clean laundry and washroom areas on levels 1 and 2 which includes cleaning dryer filter, washing machine, benches, basins, mirror and mop floor
- Clean both showers on levels 1and 2 which includes wiping down shower recess, cleaning shower screens and mop floors
- Clean toilets on levels 1 and 2 which includes, cleaning bowls and seats, the pipe work behind toilets and mop floors. Always top up toilet paper to 15 rolls.
- Check fire extinguisher levels
Tasks for North 1 flat (only when occupied):
- Clean front porch and 3 metres around front entry
- Vacuum and dust lounge room
- Clean kitchen area, which includes benches, sink, stove and oven, microwave, tiles and mop floor
- Vacuum and dust bedroom, clean mirror and change linen
- Clean toilet which includes, cleaning bowl and seat, the pipe work behind toilet and mop floor. Always top up toilet paper to 8 rolls
- Clean shower which includes whipping down shower recess, cleaning shower screens, mop floor and change bath mat, towel, face washer and soap.
What Residents Are Expected To Do:
- Maintain and clean your bedrooms
- Residents in ensuite accommodation are responsible for their areas.
- Make sure all common areas are clean and clear of clutter at all times. Ensure that are no personal items in the common areas prior to cleaners arrival (place items away in cupboards).
- Kitchen bench top is clean and clear of any food and crockery/cutlery.
- Toilet area is clear of any personal items.
- Wash their dishes and cooking equipment.
- Do not leave bottles, boxes, cans etc lying about. Place all rubbish in bins provided. Place all recyclable items in black tubs and empty them at the recycling stations on a regular basis.
- Empty kitchen and toilet rubbish bins regularly. Do not allow bins to overflow.
